About Legal Aid & Services Clinic
The Legal Aid and Outreach Program is a vital initiative undertaken by Soundarya College of Law to promote access to justice and empower marginalised communities. Rooted in the constitutional mandate of Article 39A of the Indian Constitution, which ensures equal justice and free legal aid, this program enables law students to engage directly with real-world legal issues and contribute meaningfully to society.
Through this initiative, the Legal Aid Clinic of the Soundarya College of Law provides free legal advice, counselling, and awareness to underprivileged sections of society. Students, under the guidance of faculty and practising lawyers, participate in legal literacy camps, village visits, door-to-door outreach, client counselling, and legal documentation support. These activities not only bridge the gap between law and the people but also enhance the practical learning of students.In collaboration with District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and local administrative bodies, the program helps spread awareness on key issues like women’s rights, child protection, domestic violence, labour rights, and consumer protection.
Activities of the Clinic
We provide Pro Bono Legal Opinion to people in need. The matters are related to family law, property law, labor law and criminal law, etc.
We conduct an Inter College Competition on pro-bono legal activities.
We take the committee members for Lokadalat Session in the different courts of Bengaluru where they witness the hearing of various cases and get firsthand experience of the procedure in Lok Adalat.
Members involve themselves in research on current socio-legal issues in a group. They discuss and analyze the issues.
Members visit Villages and conduct surveys and submit reports to the authorities.
Committee organizes and members attend Various Workshops on Socio-Economic Legal Issues like Fundamental Rights and Duties, Right to Information, Garbage Disposal, Alcoholism, Human Trafficking in various schools, colleges, public places etc,.
We conduct Awareness Campaigns in collaboration with various NGOs through Street plays on issues like Protection of environment, Importance of Education in collaboration with various NGOs.
